THE SACRAMENTS

Throughout our life, we are encouraged to stay close to the Sacraments.
They give us life and guide us on our spiritual journey.
BAPTISM

Nothing compares to the love we receive in Baptism.
The sacrament of Baptism is all about God’s love and the indelible spiritual mark we receive when we are baptized, giving us life and our true identity as Christians. It is through baptism that we are freed from sin and "reborn" as children of God. When parents make the decision to have their child baptized, they are taking that first step towards their child leading a Christian life. Baptism is the "gateway" to the rest of the sacraments.
If you would like to have your child baptized at St. Anne Parish in Mattawa, please contact the office. You will be asked to complete a registration form (see below). A preparation session with the parents and Godparents will be required. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age, baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic faith. Baptisms at St. Anne's will take place after Sunday Mass.

FIRST CONFESSION & FIRST COMMUNION

In learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, children learn how sin offends God. They learn that by being sorry for their sins and by confessing them to God through the priest, they learn about God's infinite love and forgiveness.

In the Sacrament of First Communion, children learn how Jesus instituted the priesthood and the Mass. They learn how the Mass is a memorial of Christ's passion, and how through the priests' consecration of the bread and wine, Jesus truly becomes present to us. They learn how when receiving Communion, we receive Jesus into our heart, body and soul.
CONFIRMATION

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, young people are affirmed in the faith commitment that their parents made for them at Baptism. Confirmation is an essential part of Christian initiation. When the bishop (or the priest) seals them with the gift of the Holy Spirit, it roots them more closely into Christ and strengthens our bond with the Church. This sacrament is for children in grades 7 or older. The person being confirmed must have a sponsor. The sponsor must be Roman Catholic, be a model of good faith, and be at least 16 years of age.

If you live in Mattawa and have a child or youth (17 and under), ready to receive First Confession, First Communion or Confirmation at St. Anne Parish, please call the office to inquire or monitor our bulletin for a registration announcement (usually around Easter time). A registration form (see below) will need to be completed.

MARRIAGE - HOLY MATRIMONY

A Christian marriage, the sacred union of husband and wife, is one built on the principles of God's teachings, which provides a sturdy foundation for a new family. Contact the parish office at least one year in advance to initiate the preparation and the steps required for the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND VISITING OF THE AGED

The Anointing of the Sick is another way the Church follows Jesus. With the anointing of holy oil, a priest can bring healing, spiritual comfort, and hope to the sick, the elderly and the dying. If you have a family member or friend in the hospital or nursing home who would like to receive this sacrament, please contact the coordinator on site or call the parish office to make arrangements. If you require a home visit within the territories of our parishes, please contact the parish office where arrangements can be made with the priest or one of our deacons.
HOLY ORDERS

By the power of the Holy Spirit and the Rite of Ordination, the Sacrament of Holy Orders is a continuation of Christ’s mission here on earth through the ministerial priesthood. It is the sacrament of apostolic ministry for a bishop, priest and deacon.
